trivago does Tech Open Air

Tech Open Air is an annual festival bringing together technology, music, art and science. Located in Funkhaus (the former East German radio studios) in Berlin, TOA connects some of the brightest minds from across Europe and beyond. trivago travelled to TOA to learn, contribute and even host our own satellite event.

The festival attracted over 20,000 attendees, hosted 200+ satellite events across the city, and presented over 200 speakers, from SoundCloud to NASA and everywhere in-between.

But we were not there just to listen to others talk, our own CEO Rolf (fresh off a red-eye from Hong Kong) spent the day doing back-to-back interviews with the likes of the Financial Times, LinkedIn, Gründerszene, Handelsblatt and Berlin Valley to name a few…

Rolf then took to the TOA main stage for a ‘fireside-chat’ with Karsten Lemm from WIRED. His talk covered themes including life in Düsseldorf, trivago’s company culture and the future of the trivago platform.

Watch the full talk here:

Straight after Rolf’s talk we jumped in a cab and headed to our very own satellite event ‘trivago’s Melting Pot of Creativity’. Hosted in a co-working space in Kreuzberg, our event encouraged creatives to ‘step into our office’ and experience life at trivago for one night.

The night started with an intimate chat with Rolf. After speaking about our company culture, guests were invited to participate in an open Q&A.

Following Rolf, we gave our guests the ‘trivago vitamins’ experience with ‘What’s stopping you being creative’ presented by Twaambo – our TV ad scriptwriter. Twaambo’s engaging session explored what is holding us back from reaching our creative potential in a modern world, and what we can do to inspire creativity in ourselves.

The last speaker of the night was Eva Reitenbach, Managing Director of the Oddity Agency in Berlin. Oddity is a digital agency specialising in social media campaigns, they have created unique online messages for the likes of DM, Tchibo, Mercedes Benz and even Star Wars! Eva’s visual presentation took us behind the scenes of these projects, she shed light on what went in to the planning, rollout and the testing of the campaigns.

After 3 days of Tech Open Air we wrapped up our satellite event with a real trivago Friday experience, including endless food, drinks and music.

Until next year!
